Fidenza Hotels - Emilia Romagna

Fidenza is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Italy's Emilia Romagna region. In the past, the town owed its importance to its strategic position between Piacenza and Parma, and its role as staging post on one of Europe's most important thoroughfares: the Via Francigena. These same factors have determined Fidenza's continual expansion.

Both "Art city" and flourishing commercial town, Fidenza is perhaps best known for its Cathedral, the Duomo Antelamico. This undisputed masterpiece of Lombard Romanesque architecture contains numerous sculptures dating back to the 13th century, time when the edifice was built.

Right next to the cathedral there is the Torre Viscontea, erected on the site of an old roman bridge. Palazzo delle Orsoline provides the elegant venue for Fidenza's Museo del Resorgimento. Dedicated to Luigi Musini (1843-1903), local Garibaldi supporter elected to the Kingdom of Italy's first parliament, the museum contains a fascinating collection of letters, photographs, prints, and lithographs relative to the Unification of Italy. Food lovers should be sure to make the brief journey to Zibello, town just north of Fidenza where the culatello, king of Italian Salumi, is made.
