Comacchio Hotels - Emilia Romagna

Comacchio, in the province of Ferrara and in close proximity of the Riviera Romagnola, is one of Emilia Romagna's most enchanting little towns. Situated within the Po Delta Park, Comacchio was constructed on a cluster of thirteen islets, linked by a picturesque network of bridges and canals.

Without shadow of doubt, the most impressive of Comacchio's bridges is the 17th century Trepponti Bridge, a two-towered construction erected so as to span the confluence of five canals. Another admirable work of architecture is the 19th century Palazzo Bellini, which now houses a library, historic archive and contemporary art gallery. Comacchio, also known as "little Venice", still conserves the appearance of a historic Italian lagoon town.

Comacchio is also known for its sandy beaches: seven "lidi", including that of Porto Garibaldi, where the 'hero of the two worlds' landed in 1849. Supreme protagonist of the local culinary tradition, the eel of the Valli di Comacchio features on the menus of all of the area's restaurants. Such is the importance of eel to the local economy, that a festival is held in its honour on the first and second weekend of October each year.
